California Trip Post 1

Day 1- We left for our trip around noon on June 20th.  A friend of mine drove the kids and me to Andrew’s work and we left from there.  Now to keep things as real as possible, I have decided to include the accounts of our morning.
About a half an hour before Lindsey showed up, I gave the kids lunch, and sent them outside.  I wanted to get all the last minute stuff done without having them creating more of a mess.  About 5 minutes after sending them outside Winter comes back in saying she didn’t feel well, after acting perfectly normal all day. She is crying that she doesn’t want to go. I am telling her that she is fine and that she just needs to calm down.  She sometime will make herself sick by getting all worked up about the fact that she may get carsick.  She sets her yogurt tube on the floor in the bathroom, then accidently steps on it, shooting yogurt all over the bathroom floor.  By then I am starting to lose my patience and I am a very patient person.  Lindsey walks in to all this chaos and I am surprised she didn’t turn around and leave.  We finally get everything into the car, and Winter is still freaking out.  About half way to Andrew’s work she starts gagging; I grab a bag on Lindsey’s floor dumping out all the contents everywhere, and give it to her just in time.  We get to Andrew’s work and while we are getting everything into our car from Lindsey’s, Winter goes in, and ask the secretary if she can stay there while her family is on vacation.  This lady is so lost since she has no clue who this little girl is.  We finally come into the office and Winter then proceeds to ask Andrew’s co-workers if she can stay with them.  We finally get her calmed down and in the car.  All the while poor Weston looks terrified.  He keeps saying maybe we should stay home and maybe this isn’t a good idea.  I can tell that he is starting to get worked up also.  He ends up throwing up about 10 minutes into the car ride.  Thankfully after that both kids fall asleep and we have a wonderful rest of the trip!  Thankfully we got the worst out at the beginning!
The rest of the drive to Flagstaff, AZ was uneventful. Just because I want it noted I drove way more than Andrew!  We got into Flagstaff really late, the kids were already sleeping, and we didn’t have a place to stay so we ended up sleeping in our car.  We rented a space at a KOA for the night.

Day 2- We woke up in the morning, had donuts for breakfast, and got cleaned up at the YMCA. We headed to Slide Rock only to find out that they were closed due to fires.  They sent us to a different area so the kids could get into the water.  It was way too cold and we ended up not staying long.  We walked around Sedona before deciding to get on the road early for San Diego.  Got into San Diego around 6 and grabbed dinner at this yummy pizza place. Ended up calling it a night early so we could rest up for the next day.

Day 3- Today we spent the WHOLE day at Sea World.  We arrived right when they opened and stayed until closing. We did all the rides and shows.  The kids loved it and had a lot of fun!

Day 4- This day was spent touring San Diego.  We started by going to The USS Midway Museum. It was really neat for Andrew and I, but the kids lost interest about half way through.  After that we went over to the Point Loma Tide Pools.  This was really neat and I highly recommend it.  Just make sure to get there an hour before low tide.  We showed up a little late and didn’t get the full effect.  We also walked around Cabrillo National Monument and lighthouse.  Then we headed to Coronado Beach.  It was so pretty and the kids loved it.  The water was actually pretty clear and I think our next family vacation will be a week at a beach somewhere!  The kids could have stayed all day!  Sadly everyone was getting hungry though so we had to say goodbye to the beach.  We got a recommendation from a friend to go down to Old Town and try Café Cayote   We are glad we did because it was really good.  Plus they had margaritas that were as big as your head!!  We also walked around to the shops down there before deciding we needed dessert!  This is also when Andrew his a nail sticking out of the ground and thought he broke his toe.  We went to Ghirardelli’s in downtown San Diego.  By then everyone was exhausted so we called it a night!

Day 5- When we woke up on this morning it was time to say goodbye to San Diego and head north. We spent the whole day at Legoland.  Once again the kids had a blast.  We also added the aquarium onto our ticket so we could get out of the sun for a little bit.  After the park we grabbed a late dinner at In-and-Out Burger before heading to L.A!
